Lever Brothers

Lever Brothers (sh. Braća Lever) je bilo britansko poduzeće za proizvodnju sapuna i deterdženata. Osnovali su ga 1885. William Hesketh Lever (1851–1925) i njegov brat James Darcy Lever (1854–1910), uloživši novac u proizvodnju i promociju nove metode proizvodnje sapuna koju je izumio kemičar William Hough Watson. Novi sapun, pod imenom Sunlight je postigao veliki uspjeh, a slijedili su sapuni Lifebuoy i Lux, odnosno sredstvo za čišćenje Vim koje je postalo poznato i korišteno širom svijeta. Lever Brothers je također bila poznata i po tome što je uprava vodila izuzetnu brigu o dobrobiti svojih zaposlenika, te je od 1888. do 1914. za njih u Engleskoj sagradila Port Sunlight, jedno od najpoznatijih model naselja u historiji arhitekture. Godine 1930. se sa nizozemskom kompanijom Margarine Unie udružila u Unilever, jednu od prvih modernih multinacionalnih korporacija. Staro ime se još neko vrijeme koristilo u SAD, gdje je njen predsjednik Charles Luckman 1950. dao sagraditi znameniti njujorški neboder Lever House.

check out David LaChapelle "From Darkness to Light" before it closes on 9/2! lever house always puts up incredible installations so u should definitely make a point to wander over here 2/3x a year
