Hősök tere

Trg heroja (mađarski: Hősök tere) je najveći i najimpresivniji trg u Budimpešti.

On je 2002. zajedno sa ostalim budimpeštanskim lokalitetima (Andraševa ulica, Budimski dvorac, Obala Dunava) uvršten na UNESCO-vu Listu mjesta svjetske baštine u Evropi.

Karakteristike i historija gradnje

Trg je izgrađen 1896. kao centralno mjesto u sklopu obilježavanja hiljadu godišnjeg postojanja ugarskog kraljevstva. Nalazi se na kraju Andraševe ulice na ulazu u Gradski park (Városliget), i jedna od najposjećenijih znamenitosti Budimpešte. Okružen je sa dvije važne građevine; Muzejom likovne umjetnosti (Szépművészeti Múzeum) na lijevoj i Umjetničkim paviljonom (Műcsarnok) na desnoj strani. Trg heroja bio je i početna stanica tada izgrađenog milenijskog metroa, kao prvog u kontinentalnoj Evropi.

U samoj sredini trga uzdiže se Milenijski spomenik, u čijem se centru nalazi visoki monumentalni stup, na čijem se vrhu koči skulptura arkanđela Gabrijela, koji u jednoj ruci drži sveti vijenac, a u drugoj dvostruki križ - simbol kršćanstva, koji je i osnova mađarskog grba. U podnožju stupa, leže skulpture sedam legendarnih vođa mađarskih plemena, iz kojih je nastala današnja mađarska nacija. Skulpture kraljeva i ostalih važnih historijskih ličnosti stoje na vrhu kolonada, koje sa obje strane okružuju stup.

U vrijeme kad je podignut Mađarska je bila dio Austro-Ugarske Monarhije, pa je zbog toga posljednjih pet mjesta za skulpture na lijevoj kolonadi bilo rezervirano za članove vladajuće habsburške dinastije. Nakon Drugog svjetskog rata, kad je spomenik obnovljen - skulpture habsburških monarha su zamijenjene sa mađarskim nacionalnim junacima.

Skulpture je isklesao - György Zala, u to vrijeme najvažniji mađarski skulptor, među inima isklesao je likove; Svetog Stefana, Svetog Ladislava, Kolomana, Andrije II., Bele IV., Karla Roberta, Lajoša Anžujskog, Janoša Hunjadija, Matije Korvina, Istvána Bocskaja, Gábora Bethlena, Imre Thökölya, Ferenca Rákóczija i Lajosa Kossutha.

Na Trgu heroja se 1989. okupilo se 250.000 ljudi na ceremoniji ponovnog sprovoda Imre Nagya, nekadašnjeg mađarskog premijera, koji je pogubljen 1958.
