Zamak Dunnottar (od škotsko-gelskog Dùn Fhoithear = utvrda na litici) je utvrda udaljena oko 3 km južno od Stonehavena (Aberdeenshire) Škotska.

Historija

Taj zamak čije ruševine leže na stijeni iznad mora, izgleda da je bio utvrđen još za srednjeg vijeka. Ostatci građevina koje se danas vide su podignute između 15. i 16. vijeka.

U njemu je tokom Škotskih ratova za nezavisnost bilo sakriveno blago škotskog dvora.

Engleski kralj - Edward I ga je zauzeo - 1296., ali je ponovno pao u škotske ruke - 1297. u napadu Williama Wallaca. On je pritom spalio crkvu sa cijelim engleskim garnizonom u njoj.

I vojska Olivera Cromwella je 1650. nakon osmomjesečne opsade provalila u Dunnottar u potrazi za kraljevskim blagom. Ali ga nije pronašla jer je ono prije nego što je zamak zauzet, kriomice brodom prebačeno u malu crkvu u selu - Kinneff, gdje je ostalo neotkriveno punih jedanaest godina.

The way isn't the easiest, but the views and the history totally worth. If it's sunny don't think twice and go there (with good trekking shoes or snickers).
