Akvinkum

Akvinkum (Aquincum) je drevni grad koga su osnovali Rimljani, a čiji se ostaci nalaze na području današnje mađarske prijestolnice Budimpešte, odnosno području poznatom kao Stari Budim.

Područje su prvotno nastanjivali keltsko pleme Eravisci, te se vjeruje da naziv mjesta dolazi od keltskih riječi Ak-Ink ("Obilata voda"), odnosno da su stanovnike privukle termalne vode. Za vrijeme cara Klaudije|Klaudija sredinom 1. vijeka je na tom području, koje se nalazilo na granici rimske provincije Panonije, bila stacionirana manja konjička jedinica, a 89. je tamo došla legija, čiji je logor (castrum) postao osnovom za budući grad. Godine 106. je postao glavni grad provincije Pannonia Inferior. Vjeruje se da je vrhunac imao sredinom 2. vijeka kada je u njemu živjelo između 30.000 i 40.000 ljudi.
