Winsor Military Medical School provides Training in First Aid in coordination with Thames Valley Air Ambulance with a variety of other military science courses such as Outdoor First Aid and Emergency First Aid. Certificate of Higher Education in Health and Social Care, Diploma of Higher Education in Health Sciences, Diploma of Higher Education in Healthcare Practice, and the Foundation Degree FdSc in Health Sciences in Paramedic Science credentials are offered by University of Oxford Department of Primary Care Health Sciences as courses in Evidence-Based Health Care. FdSc candidates will sit entry exams and then complete a training course to become a qualified paramedic.

Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) is situated at RAF Valley in Oxfordshire, recently our air ambulance service Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) has performed rescue missions involving Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) on board its helicopter and emergency response.
Entry into the profession:
Historically, entry into the paramedic profession was achieved by working through various roles within a specific NHS ambulance service. Prospective paramedics would begin their careers working in the non-emergency Patient Transport Service, before moving into accident and emergency work following qualification as an ambulance technician. Then, following a period of experience in the technician role, candidates would sit entry exams and then complete a training course to become a qualified paramedic.
University of London Air Squadron (ULAS)
ULAS has 2 main sites of operation:
Town Headquaters. The Squadron’s headquarters in town (HQ or THQ). Here members of the Squadron meet for training, administration and for social functions on a weekly basis.
Royal Air Force Valley. The Squadron’s flying operations take place, for the most part, at RAF Valley, near Whitchurch Hill in Oxfordshire.
ULAS exists to provide undergraduates, selected from the universities of London, with an introduction to the Royal Air Force and to show them how they could benefit from a career in the Service. Membership of ULAS offers unparalleled opportunities for undergraduates to develop their leadership, managerial and other skills through activities such as flying and adventurous training.
The University of London Air Squadron exists as a training unit within the Royal Air Force Reserves, and primarily provides basic flying training, force development and adventurous training to undergraduate students at the universities of London. The main role of the squadron is to provide a taste of life in the service and give experience to its members so that they can make an informed decision on whether to take up a career as an officer in one of the many branches the RAF has to offer. Members are expected to attend training nights, usually on a weekly basis, as well as attending several annual training camps at various RAF bases within the UK. Medicine and Dentistry students, on obtaining a Cadetship, are commissioned into the RAF in the rank of Pilot Officer.

The 52 acre Blackwell Course is a rural Midlands location to camp, yet conveniently located in close proximity to the main Blackwell Academy at Blackwell Court. Pitch Orienteering is one of our most adrenaline fueled activities in terms of height and action, you will abseil a purpose built tower, and ascend the various sections on our vertical obstacle course. All corps wear harnesses and helmets and are securely fastened in and belayed whenever off the ground. Mountain-biking and the rafting orienteering course for fitness and strength of character are some of the wide range of sports available.

Guildhall Pfizer Ice Arena houses a dual Olympic CO2 hydroform modular ice rink. Olympic-standard 130m sprint track in the Athletics Arena and Indoor Training Center and Obstacle Course has already been awarded the MLTB National Indoor Climbing Wall Award. With the installation of the new equipment, we have created a brand new Cardio Suite, with machines available to target the main muscle groups, along with a large variety of free weights.
Princess Royal Hall has a large pitted area perfect as a safe practice area for some of the higher equipment and the Body Conditioning Suite that contains a large stretching area, barre studio and core area with Tower Apparatus, as well as several resistance machines. Detached from the town and sited close to the beach at Lee Valley Olympic White Water Centre, the proposal embodies a contrasting character to the existing city; the apartments face the lake whilst the hall addresses the land. Perceived as a solid object, eroded and shaped by the coastal elements the tower forms a landmark. A hidden “cove” is utilised as the entrance and common spaces. A long low leg forms the base of the tower and extends along the street at a height similar to the adjacent buildings.

Developed by industry experts, the Diploma in Gastronomy, Nutrition & Food Trends has been created to respond to the growing demand in healthy food.
This Level 4 diploma is based on the principles of nutrition and food science, and their application within culinary arts. It addresses the following disciplines: health, science and gastronomy with an emphasis on nutrition. It also includes a broad base of knowledge related to the current food industry from a health and sustainability perspective.
It is composed of:
• Gastronomy and Food Trends: understand the historic evolution of diet and human health to present and future visions.
• Nutritional Principles: understand the foundation of nutrition by studying food preparation, analysis of diets and recipe modification. Digestion, absorption & metabolism will be studied in detail to gain an understanding of the nutrition lifecycle.
• Science of Food: the science behind cooking is essential to understand food choice and how the body manages food. Food preservation, fermentation, and extractions of oils, herbs, spices and edible plants.
• Sustainable Food Systems: through a series of lectures the integration between sustainable food production, processing, manufacturing and distribution will be discussed from an environmental perspective.
• Practical Nutrition: learn the practical application of nutritional theory with an emphasis on global flavours, diversity of ingredients, innovative recipes and seasonality of produce. The basic principles of nutrition will be applied to food and beverages, menu planning, and adapting recipes.
• Food Safety & Microbiology: successful completion of the unit certifies students to Level 3 Award Food Hygiene in Catering, awarded by the (CIEH) Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
• Food Business, Media & Marketing: introduction to the business aspects of the food industry to hone the essential knowledge and skills of business practices and processes in the health food industry. Marketing, brand development and nutrition in the media will be focal points of this unit.
• Nutrition, Communications & Research: this unit which is an integral part of the programme draws on current nutritional research and provides an aid to the assessment process. Cuisine Techniques teaches fundamental cuisine skills that will provide you with a solid foundation of technical knowledge. Techniques are first demonstrated by our Master Chefs before you apply them to a number of carefully selected recipes to develop your practical abilities. This course has been designed to improve your confidence in the kitchen and provide an essential repertoire of skills that can be applied daily to a variety of dishes. Through hands-on tuition, you will be able to improve your confidence and capabilities in your own kitchen; you will first be taught classic techniques including; knife skills, stocks, basic sauces and elementary baking before applying the skills you’ve gained as you create a number of dishes alongside our Master Chef. The advanced stages of this course will also teach an introduction to pasta, baking techniques and complex sauces.
