(Margaret went on to marry Charles Brandon, have it annulled the same year (1507), and then marry in 1522 Robert Downes, in addition to having had an illegitimate daughter) B. Created Knight Banneret after the Battle of Stoke 1487. Died July 29 1509 Also of Eleanor his wife daughter of Sir Edmund Cornewall Baron of Burford Salop Widow of Sir Hugh Mortimer of Kyre&quot; Fighting on the side of the future yorkist Edward lV at Mortimers Cross(in his own estate) in 1461, Sir Richard rose in favour, Eleanor being &quot;lady governess&quot; to the king's children. Richard was governor at Ludlow and Wigmore of the household of Yorkist king Edward IV's sons, Edward and Richard of York. &quot;A fierce and warlike marchman,&quot; his rough handling prompted the young princes to complain to their father &quot;of the odious rule and governance of Richard Croft.&quot; Richard fought in the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471 where he captured Prince Edward son of King Henry VI, but was not responsible for the Prince's murder. They both transferred their service to Lancastrian Tudor Henry Vll and his yorkist queen daughter of Edward lV being made Treasurer of the Household to the king and later steward of the household of Prince Arthur at Ludlow and Eleanor having a similar post. He was also High Sheriff and MP for Herefordshire. He also fought in the Battle of Stoke in 1487 and the same year was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath &quot; Dame Elinor had such increase of children that seventeen score and odd people were descended of her bodye before she died&quot;.
